Sannen-zaka and Ninen-zaka

As you leave Kiyomizu-dera you hang a right down some stone steps and you enter Sannen-zaka and Ninen-zaka. A collection of old cobbled lanes that preserves old wooden buildings that epitomise old Kyoto. Now most of the houses, on the main lanes at least, are souvenir and food shops. Here you will see real Geishas wandering up and down the street, shuffling along only stopping for photos. Ran into a postie delivering mail and asked him for a photo (that's for you Grub) and found another Ghibli store - still no t-shirts. There's also a giant Buddha at one end of the street.
