Partial Lunar Eclipse from Sydney, Oz

Before I went to the footy tonight to see Collingwood belt Sydney, sigh, I was able to grab a picture of the moon. This was before the partial lunar eclipse due an hour or so later. I shot this photo through my Galileoscope with my Lumix Lx3. No special tricks or anything. I just pointed the telescope at the moon and raised the camera up to the eyepiece and fired away.
The photo was F/2.8, at 1/200 sec and ISO-80 and taken from Sydney at 5:47PM. I've flipped the photo to correct the inverted image from the telescope. Click the picture to embiggen.

Unfortunately the eclipse coincided with the annual blockbuster between Sydney and Collingwood out at the Olympic stadium. I probably should've stayed home and tried to get some proper shots of the eclipse because Collingwood smashed Sydney. I did manage to see the eclipse during the the quarter time and half time breaks and from the top of the car park after the game. Pity I didn't have my telescope with me. The picture below is about as good as I could get with a digital camera which only has a 65mm zoom. This photo had an aperture of F/2.8, a shutter speed of 1/500 sec and ISO-80 and taken from Sydney Olympic Park at 10:09PM. Click picture to embiggen.

Big Day Out 17 - The End

This is the true finale for the Big Day Out 2010. For me at least. Metal legends Fear Factory belted it out on one of the side stages to finish the evening. The two guitarists are big boys. Holy cow I think they ate one... a cow that is. Good stuff though and loud. I thought of checking out Groove Armada in the Boiler Room but it was enough to hear them on the way to the train.

TripleM have pictures from the various BDOs here and the SMH here. The SMH also had a preview here and finally a review here.

The, not quite, finale to the Big Day Out 2010. Today's BDO was the 100th so the organisers decided to put on a fireworks and flames display after Muse finished.

Green Day done like a dinner

Um... there's a bunch of posts missing. Email must've fudged up. Will fix that tomorrow when I'm less buggered.
Green Day = Awesome. So punkalicious. Even had me bouncing up and down like it was 1995 all over again. Oh, and the reason for buggeredness? Green Day played for just on 3 hours. Sheeeeeeeeit. It is rare these days for an artist to top 90 minutes including encores so at almost 180 minutes Green Day must top the value for money stakes at least.

The Sydney Morning Herald had a preview here. Haven't found any reviews yet but there is set list here. One minor snark, every time Billie J screamed out "SYDNEY" I thought of Spinal Tap saying hello Springfield and/or Shelbyville. On the whole though it was an awesome show. Mostly new stuff with smattering of old tracks and covers throughout.

In a previous post I mentioned the number of kids with their mums and dads here. Half the crowd today might not have even been born the last time I saw Green Day. Last time round, in '95, half the kids had spiky coloured hair. This time not so much. Maybe the old punk aesthetic has gone out the window?

Update: Sydney Morning Herald review of the Friday (I went Saturday) night show here.
