We're going to Beechworth and Bright in the North East of Victoria for the long weekend. We decided to get out of Sydney early and get some of the way down the road tonight. We've gone as far as Yass which is about 280km from Sydney or about 3 and half hours travelling time. Didn't get over 40 kays an hour for the first 45 minutes because of peak hour traffic. Once we hit the freeway though it was smooth sailing.
We booked a room, an economy room ($70), at the Hamilton Hume Motor Inn in Yass. It is pretty basic but we do have free WiFi. The air conditioner and heater in the room doesn't work but the "concierge" gave us a portable fan heater which seems to be doing the trick. The temperature drops a bit once you get away from the coast. Currently in Yass it is about 3 degrees C so we need that heater.
There wasn't much open in Yass food wise so I'm glad we stopped earlier for a piss break and bought some snacks - donuts and Kit-Kats. I know, you're jealous. Michelle was more sensible than me and made a banana sandwich.
Tomorrow we hit the road again and head to Beechworth - about 4 hours drive.
